Setting up Internet Email on Netscape
- Pull down the Edit menu.
- Select Preferences.
- Select the Identity under Mail & Newsgroups.
- Fill in your Name
- Fill in your Email as <Internet ID>@tc.umn.edu (ie: user1234@tc.umn.edu).
- Place the same address you just keyed in the Reply-to field.
- Fill in the Organization as University of Minnesota.
- Click on Mail Servers.
- Enter the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server as smtp-gw.tc.umn.edu
- Enter the Outgoing mail server username as your University x.500 ID (ie: user1234).
- Check Never for Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL).
- Select the item in the Incoming Mail Servers box (If empty, press the add button).
- Enter the Server Name which is your mail server of: <Internet ID>.email.umn.edu
- Enter the User Name as your x.500 ID
- Select the server type: POP
- Select the POP tab.
- Check the desired options.
- Click OK.
You are now ready to send and receive mail using Netscape Communicator. To view any new messages, you will need to first start Netscape Messenger. You can do this my pulling down the Communicator menu and selecting Messenger. This action will automatically try to fetch any new mail. Alternatively, if you wish to manually check for new messages, you can press the Get Msg button at the top of the toolbar, or pull down File and select Get New Messages. Your messages will appear in the Inbox.
To send a message, you can press the New buttom at the top of the toolbar, or pull down the File menu and select New and Message. This will open a Send Mail:Message Composition window. You can compose e-mail message from this location.
