Overtime Work Procedure
Internal Policy:
Non-V Civil Service and Bargaining Unit employees are eligible for Overtime when they work more than 40 hours per workweek on one or more University jobs.
Student employees who are on 50% appointment, are also eligible for overtime if they work more than 40 hours per week or in excess of 8 hours per day or 80 hours per pay period.
All overtime must be approved by the appropriate responsible administrator prior to being worked or it will not be considered paid work time.
Overtime shall be paid at the rate of time and one-half. Employees may choose to take compensatory time off at a later date approved by their supervisor at the rate of time and one-half. The Purchasing Department Director or her designee shall have discretion to make reasonable restrictions on the amount of compensatory time off that can be accumulated or on the length of time during which a compensatory time-off balance can be carried forward.
Procedure:
Employees, who work overtime, must complete a time card for the time they worked overtime. A new card is used at the beginning of each new pay period.
Employee must complete the following:
Name
Mark the Student box, Yes or No
Employee ID
Pay Period Ending Date
Department Name
Reason for Overtime
Date Worked; In Time; Out Time; Number of Hours worked & Total Hours Worked
Employee Signature
The Time Card should be turned over to the Supervisor on Monday morning (first day of the new pay period) for processing.
The supervisor will complete the following:
Account Information; Employee Class Number
(X)Pay Overtime
Hourly Rate
Write Total Hours Worked in column next to "Time and 1/2" and write the amount due to the employee (Total hours worked by 1.5 x Hourly Rate). Write this amount in the box "Pay This Amount", also.
Sign it
Take a copy of the card for supervisor's record
Send the original to Tonya Taylor in the Controller's Organization
